What Is Commercial Roof Refurbishment?
Commercial roof refurbishment sits between routine repair and complete roof replacement. It is a managed programme of inspection, repair, treatment and protective coating that restores an ageing or failing roof to full performance, without the cost, disruption and waste of stripping the entire roof and starting again.
A refurbishment programme typically covers condition assessment, repair of structural damage, treatment of cut edge corrosion and failed fixings, overcladding or replacement of the most deteriorated sections, and application of a protective coating system that seals and weatherproofs the whole roof.
The key distinction from a standard roof coating is scope. Where a coating system is applied to a roof that is broadly sound but showing surface deterioration, a full refurbishment programme covers a roof that needs more significant intervention before a coating can be specified. Both approaches share the same goal: restoring a structurally sound roof to full performance at far lower cost than replacement.
For most commercial and industrial buildings whose roofs are between 15 and 25 years old, refurbishment is the most commercially intelligent option available.
